People who wish to audition should attend a rehearsal with the chorus for about an hour and a half and then attend an orientation with the membership committee about what to expect if accepted into the chorus. This provides focused time for information, questions and paperwork.

Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 10pm at the War Memorial Veterans' Building, Room 213. The building is at 401 Van Ness Avenue (at McAllister).
You'll need a black 3-ring binder for your music and a pencil for marking your music. Avoid wearing strongly scented colognes or perfumes. While rehearsing and singing with LGCSF is tremendously fun and rewarding, rehearsing is about learning music and becoming better singers, and it requires focus and attention. Coming to rehearsal under the influence of recreational drugs or alcohol (legal or not) is not acceptable. Smoking is permitted outside of the building during breaks, but please keep in mind that it can affect your voice.
Thursday evening rehearsals are mandatory; at the director's discretion, you may be asked to demonstrate your knowledge of the music, and you may be asked to sit out the performance. Every singer in the chorus is important, and we all depend on each other. Even the most gifted musician needs to attend regular rehearsals. We do understand that there may be times you can't attend (sickness, travel, emergencies, etc.) and ask that you let our Chorus Manager know if you have to miss a rehearsal; send e-mail to manager@lgcsf.org or leave a message on the chorus voicemail: 415-295-4469.
In addition to the regular rehearsals, each section (soprano, alto, tenor, bass/baritone) may have additional rehearsals to focus on their part. There are usually extra rehearsals right before concerts as well as retreats twice a year.
Membership dues are $30 per month; members for whom this creates a financial hardship should see Chorus Manager about scholarship possibilities and alternate arrangements. There is also a $20 charge for a Chorus sweatshirt, and a per-season music fee (currently $20). Occasional periodic expenses include day or weekend retreats, travel, and optional apparel.
LGCSF has both social activities and a variety of tasks that have to be done for the Chorus to produce concerts. These notably include our participation in street fairs and the Pride Festival in San Francisco. Your participation is most welcome and strongly encouraged. Additionally, there are five different committees in which everyone needs to be a member of one of them. These committees are crucial to all the activities the Chorus participates in.
