All aboard the chattanooga choo choo!
Where? On track 29! You’ll have a real good time!
The Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco partners with City Swing to return to you to a bygone era of hollywood supper clubs, ballroom dances, and cabaret entertainment, with the big band sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, George Gershwin, and the Andrews Sisters.
Presented in two glittering performances guaranteed to warm your autumn hearts with the sounds of big band jazz. Marvel at the magically transformed Kelly Cullen Community Center resembling a Hollywood supper club of old. LGCSF Artistic and Music Director, William Sauerland, and City Swing Conductor and trumpeter, Bradley Conlain, will co-host this dazzling event.
Since 1984, City Swing, an 18-piece big band, has delighted audiences by bringing to life the sounds of big band jazz and its greatest composers. LGCSF’s full chorus, soloists, and small ensembles, will share the stage with the band. Audiences will be enchanted by such vocal classics as “Stardust”, “Moonlight Serenade”, “Autumn Leaves”, and of course, “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, with instrumental selections by Count Basie, George Gershwin, and Glenn Miller.
Special Guest Vocalist Janese Powell, will delight audiences with her buttery voice and jazzy solos. Powell, a veteran of the Bay Area Big Band scene, currently appears regularly with two big bands, The Generation Gap and Dave Alt’s Swingtime Band.
Adult beverages, snacks, and dancing will be a part of this glitzy evening. To fully enjoy the festivities, audience members are encouraged to don their best swing style attire and be ready to dance to the swinging, sensational music. A limited number of Cabaret seats with complimentary glass of wine will be available.
The nation’s oldest self-identified LGBT mixed chorus, the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco is dedicated to building and enriching the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) community through song and a love of music.
